B ob grew up in New Madrid, Missouri, where he graduated from high school. He later graduated from Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri, and like a bad penny, returned to New Madrid. Following in his father's footsteps, he is a fully licensed funeral professional who owned and operated the Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid from 1970 to 2004. He then moved to Doniphan to play on the river, squirrel hunt, go to the coffee shops and help at the funeral home.

Bob is married to Lillian and is father to Spencer.
