John Max Ballard, 81, life-time resident of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Mr. Ballard, son of the late Herbert A. and Rachel (Gatlin) Ballard, was born January 11, 1934, in Poynor, Missouri. He was a retired mail carrier with the U. S. Postal Service, always greeting each patron with a friendly smile and polite conversation. Mr. Ballard previously served the city of Doniphan as an alderman for 9 years and was a former longtime member of the Missouri National Guard. He was also a member of the Doniphan Church of Christ. Mr. Ballard loved fishing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
On March 17, 1956, he was married to Shirley Hodo in Hernando, Mississippi, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Kim (Randy) Dossey of Jacksonville, Florida; one granddaughter, Elyse (John) Girard of Norfolk, Virginia; two sisters, Pat Harris and Shirley (Tom) Saunders, both of Springfield, Missouri; four step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Visitation will take place Wednesday evening, September 9, 2015, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. A private family graveside service will be held at Doniphan City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Paragould Children’s Home or a charity of your choice.
