Dorothy Kenaga Ponder, 87, of Doniphan, departed this life Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Southeast Hospital of Ripley County in Doniphan. She was a self-employed editor for the Prospect News newspaper from 1961-1995 with her husband Chester L. (Bud) Ponder. Mrs. Ponder, daughter of the late Peter Paul & Elizabeth (Fillman) Kenaga, was born October 11, 1928, in Howell County. She enjoyed traveling, photography, friends and family. She was a member of West Point United Pentecostal Church. On March 25, 1948, she married Chester (Bud) Ponder in Ripley County. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1998. Surviving are one daughter: Suzanne (Doug) Johnson of Naylor; two sons: Greg Ponder of Doniphan and Dr. Terry Brent (Carol) Ponder of Toledo, OH; 9 grandchildren: Ashley Van Es, Caleb Johnson, Jill Woodward, Cheston Woodward, Andrew Ponder, Elizabeth Ponder, Sierra Ponder, Mason Ponder, & Brooks Ponder. Mrs. Ponder was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters: Lillian Pepmiller, Grace Kenaga, Ruth Kenaga, Doris Prade, and Sally Kenaga; four brothers: Herbert Kenaga, George Kenaga, Paul Kenaga, Arthur Kenaga and one great-granddaughter Bentley Ponder. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 11,from 5-8 pm at the West Point Pentecost Church. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 12, 1:00 P.M., at the West Point Pentecost Church with Bro. Chuck Carr and Bro. Charles Carr. Burial will be in the Amity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the College of the Ozarks or the Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis.
